On these pages there are aides to find your way in the atlas: On the overview map you see all the detailed maps included in this volume. The numbering starts with map sheet N01 at Strømstad, and follows the coast up into the Oslo fjord and further to Lista (N79).
We have also made room for an index and a list over the names of all the map sheets in the book.

| Detail Maps |
 |
|
The maps are a combination of the traditional land and nautical maps, and has great detail both on land and at sea.
The detail map on the right-hand side is in the 1:40 000 scale. This makes it possible to get more details than in normal maps. Bathing spots, hiking trails and outports are all marked with an easily spotted pictogram.
On the left-hand side is an overview map in the 1:100 000 scale. Here it is easier to get an overview of the larger picture. A frame shows the area the detail map covers.
Show a section from the map in the same high quality as the atlas: Section of Bolærne (1.2 MB)

For planning of somewhat longer trips:
- Distance tables with the distances between some important places covered by the atlas.
- Ocean charts for potential destinations further away
- Overview map of Norway where the map sheets in the 1:1 000 000 series are marked.
It's not far from the coast to the rest of Norway. On the region maps over Norway in this section you will find national parks, tourist offices and golf courses marked. The tourist offices are a natural starting point for the trip of the day.

| Learn about the sea |
 |
|
Sun and summer, bathing, the sea foam, white sails, small boats, fishing and being with friends and family. This is what we dream about, but the sea can also be dangerous.
Each year people die on or near the sea - and many of these tragic events could have been avoided. It is thus important that you know what to do to avoid that dangerous situations occur.
Equally important is to know what to do if an accident do happen.

The name index contains all names which appears on the detailed maps. The names are sorted alphabetically, and after each name the municipality name is shown in brackets.
Most entries are classified in various types (e.g. urban, water, etc). This is illustrated with a small icon to the left of the name.
In order to fit as many names on the map as possible (and also in the index) we have abbreviated descriptive names. A complete list of these abbreviations can also be found here.
